An Ouff for Thomas

Thomas is the son of our friends Megan and Dennis. (Dennis performed our wedding ceremony - thanks again, Dennis)

Thomas and I share the same birthday and I wanted to make something special for his big day this year. He loves dogs and refers to them all as 'Ouffs.' So I made this Ouff wearing a 'T for Thomas' sweater.

Thomas already has lots of ouffs, so to ensure that the new Ouff would make friends quickly, I outfitted him with a little green backpack marked with a bone. Inside were several felt bones to share with the other ouffs. Megan reports that the plan worked - Ouff and his tasty treats were accepted quickly into the pack.

Amigurumi Sunflowers!

I've been trying to come up with my own amigurumi patterns and this is my latest - sunflowers. Jeff likes to critique my creations (even though he claims disinterest). He likes the yellow and gold combo best and it was at his suggestion that I made the sad sunflower.

I like their little leaf arms. They’re fun and pretty quick to make.

I made up this kitty amigurumi after my cat, Zilla.

I love the way the yarn looks but it was so difficult to work with! Maybe that's why it was on clearance.

Here is a photo of the real Zilly with her ami pal, Gohan, made from her real life dog friend's fur.

The Hair of the Dog...

When you have a big dog with incredibly thick, long fur, you end up dealing with massive quantities of the stuff – on the couch, on the carpet, on us. After awhile we decided to save it and after a brief hunt on the web we found Christine at http://www.spinningstrawintogold.com/ She lives here in north Texas and spins pet fur into custom yarn. We sent off about file box full of Gohan fur and received back two big balls of Gohan yarn. Originally I’d planned on making a winter beanie for Jeff but it turned out too thick and too itchy so I unraveled it and created this little guy.

He’s a Gohan amigurumi! His body is crocheted. The ears and tail are felted from carded Gohan fur with accents made from black roving. The nose and eye rings are black felt and the mouth is black yarn. I found all of the materials at Joann’s, with the exception of the dog yarn of course.

Jeff seems to be tickled pink with his Gohan amigurumi.

Amigurumis for All

We did a bit of visiting with friends in Colorado and Utah this summer and I had fun crocheting amigurumi buddies for them. The owls and elephant pictured below I made from the Amigurumi World book.

Here are Olivia and Calvin, Andrea's munchkins, with their amigurumi creatures I crocheted for them. Aren't they adorable?
